When and Why does it Rain in the Desert

Investigating patterns of rainfall in North African over the last 500,000

NERC Standard Grant lead by Prof Mike Rogerson at Northumbria University and supported by researchers from the UK, Switzerland, Austria, India, and Tunisia. This multidisciplinary team aims to understand wet and dry phases of climate in North Africa by comparing comparing signals recorded in speleothems and loess deposits. Together with Dr Rachel Smedley, and Dr Barbara Mauz we are working on high resolution chronology for loess deposits and developing age-depth models. I am also supporting palaeoenvironmental reconstruction of the sites.
